Short answer: if your business is not on Google Maps, check nine things: a claimed and verified profile, suspension, duplicate listings, accurate categories, a real address, correct hours, a proper service area, reviews and photos, and recent activity. Most missing or low-ranking listings fail on one of these basics.
What is the local pack? The local pack is the group of three map results Google shows above regular results for local searches such as “dentist near me”. Getting in it depends on relevance, distance and prominence.
1. Is your profile claimed and verified?
An unverified profile may not appear properly, or cannot be edited. Search your business name, find the listing and confirm you are the verified owner. If someone else claimed it, request ownership through Google.
2. Has your profile been suspended?
Check your dashboard for a suspension notice. Common causes are keyword-stuffed names, a virtual or non-operating address, and unnatural reviews. Fix the exact reason flagged before you appeal. Guessing often extends the suspension. Our Google Business Profile checklist lists the causes.
3. Do you have duplicate listings?
A second listing for the same place, often created by a previous manager or agency, splits reviews and can confuse Google. Search your phone number and address, then claim, merge or report duplicates.
4. Are your categories accurate and specific?
Your primary category is the biggest relevance signal. “Ayurvedic Clinic” beats “Clinic.” Add secondary categories only for services you really offer.
5. Is your address real and consistent?
Google verifies addresses. Use the address where you operate, written the same everywhere: profile, website footer and directories. Fake addresses in other cities risk suspension and do not work.
6. Are hours, phone and services complete?
Empty fields weaken the profile. Add opening hours, a phone number that is answered, and a detailed services list.
7. If you serve customers at their location, is the service area set?
Service-area businesses can hide their address and list areas served, but should be genuine. Set realistic areas, not the whole state.
8. Do you have reviews and photos?
Reviews and fresh photos signal an active, trusted business. Ask satisfied customers for reviews and reply to every review. See how to get more Google reviews.
9. Are you active, and are you near the searcher?
Regular posts, photos and replies show the profile is alive. Distance also matters: a business in Gariahat will often outrank a farther, better-reviewed one for a Gariahat searcher. Focus on the areas you genuinely serve.
What should I do first?
- Confirm verification and check for suspension.
- Search for duplicates.
- Fix categories, address, hours and services.
- Add photos and start collecting reviews.
- Post regularly and track views, calls and direction requests.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my business not showing on Google Maps?
Common reasons are an unverified or suspended profile, a duplicate listing, missing categories or an address Google cannot verify.
Why do I show in Maps but not the top three?
Ranking depends on relevance, distance and prominence: categories, reviews, photos, activity and the searcher’s location.
How long do fixes take?
Simple fixes can show within weeks. Competitive rankings usually take a few months of steady activity.
Can I add a business without a shop?
Service-area businesses can list without showing an address, but must follow Google’s guidelines and be genuine.
