Google Business Profile, formerly called Google My Business or GMB, is the free listing that appears when someone searches for your business or for a service near them on Google Search and Google Maps. For many Kolkata and West Bengal businesses it is the first thing a customer sees and often the reason they call, message or visit. VK Creatives provides Google Business Profile optimisation for businesses in Kolkata, Hooghly, Howrah and across West Bengal, and for businesses elsewhere in India, with honest advice about what a profile can and cannot do.
Our own Google Business Profile is rated 4.9 on Google, and we manage it ourselves in the same way we manage profiles for clients.
What Google Business Profile optimisation includes
- Profile audit: a check of your name, categories, address, phone, hours, website link, services and photos against Google’s guidelines and your competitors
- Setup, claiming and verification: creating or claiming the listing and completing verification correctly
- Categories and services: choosing the primary and secondary categories that match what customers search, and listing every service clearly
- Business description and attributes: accurate, useful text and the right attributes, written for customers and not stuffed with keywords
- Photos and videos: a plan for real, current photos of your premises, team, work and products
- Posts and updates: regular updates, offers and events, including seasonal ones such as Durga Puja, Diwali and wedding season
- Reviews: a clean, rule-following process to ask for reviews, and help replying to every review professionally
- Citations and consistency: making your name, address and phone match across your website and the main directories
- Tracking: tagged links and call tracking so you can see what the profile actually brings in
- Monthly reporting: views, searches, calls, direction requests, website clicks and review activity
How local ranking works on Google
Google has said that local results are mainly based on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the searcher or the place named in the search. Prominence is how well known you are, which includes reviews, your website and mentions across the web.
Optimisation improves relevance and prominence. It cannot change distance. That is why we are open about limits: a business with no premises in a city will rarely appear in the map results for that city, and no agency can honestly promise otherwise.
Our process: the first 90 days
Week 1: audit
We review your profile, search results, competitors and reviews, and give you a written list of what to fix first.
Weeks 2 to 3: clean-up
We correct the basics: name, categories, hours, services, description, attributes and links, and resolve any duplicate or wrong listings.
Weeks 3 to 6: content and reviews
We add photos, start regular posts, set up a simple review request process for your customers and reply to existing reviews.
Weeks 6 to 12: consistency and growth
We tidy citations, connect the profile to your website and local landing pages, and keep improving based on what customers actually search and click.
Every month
You receive a report covering searches, views, calls, direction requests, website clicks and reviews, with the next month’s plan.
Suspended or restricted profile?
Profiles are sometimes suspended or limited after edits Google sees as suspicious: a changed name, a new address, a service-area change or a mismatch with your website. We help you work out the likely cause, gather the evidence Google asks for and submit a reinstatement request correctly. We cannot promise a result, because the decision is Google’s, but a clear, accurate submission is what gives you the best chance.
Fake listings and spam on Maps
Some competitors create duplicate or keyword-stuffed listings to outrank honest businesses. We document these listings and report them to Google through the proper channels, and we always keep your own profile within the rules.
What we will not do
- Create fake reviews or buy reviews in any form
- Set up a virtual office or fake address to appear in a city where you have no presence, which breaks Google’s guidelines and risks your whole profile
- Stuff keywords into your business name
- Promise a top-three map ranking
How to choose a Google Business Profile expert in Kolkata
- Ask them to explain relevance, distance and prominence in plain words. A good expert will tell you honestly what is outside their control.
- Ask how they get reviews and make sure the answer follows Google’s rules.
- Check that you will keep ownership of the profile.
- Ask what they report each month and how calls and visits are tracked.
- Look at the agency’s own profile: does it look cared for?
You can also do the basics yourself with our Google Business Profile checklist for Kolkata businesses. If your business does not appear on the map at all, read why your business is not showing on Google Maps.
Who benefits most
Clinics and doctors, dentists, schools and coaching classes, restaurants and cafes, salons and spas, gyms, real estate offices, interior designers, repair and home services, shops, hotels and any business where customers search nearby before they decide.
Local SEO beyond the profile
Your profile works best when your website supports it. We connect it to clear service and location pages, make sure your business details match everywhere, and link the profile to the pages customers should see. This part overlaps with our SEO services in Kolkata, and we handle both together.
Serving Kolkata and all of West Bengal
We work with businesses across Kolkata and West Bengal, online and in person by appointment, from our studio in Tarakeswar, Hooghly, and we understand how customers here use Maps, WhatsApp and phone calls to decide. We also work with businesses in other parts of India remotely.
